Hotel Haus vom Guten Hirten is Münster’s first climate hotel

Since March 2022, the Hotel Haus vom Guten Hirten has been certified as a climate hotel. We act out of conviction and strive for a careful use of resources. We are very proud to be the first hotel in Münster to offer 100% CO2 neutrality.
An overnight stay in a hotel causes an average of 13.02 kg of CO2 emissions. These emissions cannot be prevented despite strong commitment on the part of the hotelier. A completely climate-neutral stay is therefore only possible through compensation: We compensate for the unavoidable emissions by supporting a climate protection project in the region. This enables us to be climate neutral. So that you can not only enjoy staying and meeting with us, but also with a clear conscience, we are continuously optimising our measures to reduce the carbon footprint—at no extra cost to you!

This is how we keep the carbon footprint as low as possible:

  • The Hotel Haus vom Guten Hirten operates a large photovoltaic system on the roof. The electricity generated is fed into the grid and offset against the hotel's electricity consumption.
  • We reduce delivery journeys and relieve traffic through considered supplier management and a clever ordering system.
  • When selecting service providers (e.g. laundry) and suppliers, we look at their use of resources.
  • Cleaning agents are used exclusively via dosing systems.
  • We only use organic coffee and fair trade products from GEPA and organic tea from TeeGschwendner.
  • We do not use any finished food products as far as possible; for example, we make our own fruit yoghurt.
  • As far as possible, avoidance of individually packaged goods at the breakfast buffet, unless hygiene regulations prevent this.
  • We sell lemonades almost exclusively in organic quality.
  • Water and energy saving opportunities are subject to a continuous optimisation process.
  • Many employees come by bike or use public transport.

“What we do today determines what the world will look like tomorrow”.

First successes ...

We are pleased to be able to prove to you the valuable contribution to environmental protection that the Hotel Haus vom Guten Hirten makes with a certificate.

The certificate was issued by Klima-Kollekte -Kirchlicher Kompensationsfonds gemeinnützige GmbH, Caroline-Michaelis-Str. 1, 10115 Berlin, www.klima-kollekte.de.

The projects that can be supported with our contribution are in the global south also in regions (India) where the Sisters of the Good Shepherd are active.

This is not only about climate protection, but we also contribute to the fight against poverty on the ground as well as to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
